Speak Easy Accent Modification
Being misunderstood is frustrating.
Some fluent English speakers have accents that
stand in the way of their communicating effectively,
and some may not even realize they are not being
understood. Poor communication impedes workflow,
causes frustration, and may stand in the way
of career advancement.
Erica Walch provides accent
modification training to non-native -- but fluent
-- English speakers. Working individually or
in small groups, Erica teaches people how to
recognize and reproduce the sounds of standard
American English, as well as how to change their
intonation and non-verbal communication patterns.
A variety of training models is available, ranging
from an intensive two-day group training to
weekly hour-long sessions. Training can be done
in-person or at a distance, using web-cams.
Clients can expect at least a 50% improvement
in their ability to be understood at the completion
of the training.
A semester-long training for
college and university professors, which includes
work on presentation skills and effective instructional
methodology, is also available.
Erica is also available to
present short workshops and Lunch-and-Learns
on cross-cultural communication in the workplace.
Corporate clients include Harvard University,
Lenox American Saw, and Baystate Health Systems.
Erica holds a Master’s
degree in Education (M.Ed.) in English as a
Second Language (ESL) instruction to adults
and a Master of Arts degree (M.A.) in Translation
Studies. She has taught college-level ESL and
Italian since 1996.
